Artists renderings of the Giant Wheel and the surrounding Strawberry Fair area of the park.   The Giant Wheel was purchased "used" after it had served as the centerpiece for a Dutch flower show.   The floral design of the lighting hints at that past.

The rendering below shows the Giant Wheel and the Gingerbread Fancy, with the Big Fury roller coaster in the background.

With the first leg in place, the second leg of the Giant Wheel awaits hoisting by crane.
The crane pulls the second leg into place
Workers secure the two legs in the center
Workers make the long climb up the leg to begin assembly of the spokes around the hub
After all four legs are in place assembly of the spokes and outer ring begin
The legs of the Giant Wheel are attached to large steel frames, eliminating the need for large concrete footers.   These steel frames now serve as planters at the base of the legs
The completed Giant Wheel with the motors and operators booth in place.   The only things missing are the cars and the lighting
Here you can see the light strips are on two-thirds of the wheel.   The hundreds of bulbs still need to be placed in preparation for opening day
