News & Notes:  The Great American Scream Machine debuted in Spring of 1989, and for a little over two weeks was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, until Cedar Point opened the 205' tall Magnum XL200 on May 6, 1989.   Great American Scream Machine was the second of the Arrow mega-looper coasters built for Six Flags, and was a  taller version of the Shockwave coaster installed at Six Flags Great America the previous season which was originally planned for Great Adventure.   The Great American Scream Machine was originally going to be known as Ninja, but was renamed before opening with the more patriotic name.
