& Notes: The
tallest and fastest coaster in the history of Great Adventure and one of
the largest in the world made its debut in the spring of
2001. Nitro opened with the park, despite a bitterly
cold Winter, and was launched with a Survivor style contest for the first
ride. Nitro was the park's third collaboration with
Bolliger & Mabillard, designers of Batman the Ride and Medusa, and was
an immediate sensation.
I addition, the Robin side of
The Chiller was retrofitted with lapbars, replacing the over the should
restraints which had proved so uncomfortable. The Hydro
Flume underwent a name change becoming Poland Springs Plunge after Six
Flags signed a deal with the Nestle corporation water group to become an
official sponsor nationwide.
Three new up-charge
attractions also debuted at the park, the Turbo Bungy trampolines, the Sky
Scraper, and Alcatraz: The Ride.
Over in Hurricane Harbor, a
new slide complex called Hurricane Mountain added an additional 6 slides
to the popular waterpark.
At the end of the season, Spinnaker,
Time Warp and El Sombrero were all removed from the park after running
intermittently throughout the season.
