News & Notes:  In 1991, Great Adventure introduced a whole new themed area with Adventure Rivers, a waterpark within the park featuring "dry" slides which utilized rubber rafts.   The design allowed guests to ride without requiring swimsuits and the associated changing facilities.  The area was highly themed, with each slide representing one of the world's great rivers.   Adventure Rivers occupied the area now part of Looney Tunes Seaport, and included Roaring Rapids (renamed Congo Rapids), and Splash Down (renamed Irrawaddy Riptide), and also featured the Koala Canyon children's water play area.
